Day005

I am exhausted... and really for no good reason. It goes without saying that I have had a fairly relaxing day. Maybe the trip to the DMV did it (although it was the secret one, so it took us about a quarter of the time the normal ones take). Maybe it's the sheer knowledge that I have to go back to work tomorrow. Who knows. But I did have time to play with my camera a little bit today... and as we all know, I love my wide angle lens; it's fabulous. Enter: day 5.

Day005: Wide Angle Flowers

So my picture-taking journey today actually began trying to photograph Lucy, my cat. She was not having it. You see, in order to get the full wide-angle, fish-eye effect on something small (ie: Lucy's face), you have to be suuuuuuper close to it. So those shots are not nearly as put together as this one. Amusing? Yes. 365.2 blog-worthy? Not quite. However, I can promise you that Lucy will make it into this project... and probably way more than once. But moving on... these are my flower pens that I have had since initiation into my sorority, Sigma Kappa, in Fall 2008. All three colors make up my favorite color combination, hence why these colors threw up all over my wedding as well. I also love that we make such a big deal over the flower pens and not once have I actually used them as pens. Even more, I love that I still have them... maybe they are way more than just flower pens? Again, who knows.

I think I'm done rambling now. You probably stopped reading about 10 rambles ago. I would like to say just one more thing before I let you get on with your life. I just got home from MacArthur Mall in Norfolk, home to: 1. the Apple store (insert angels singing here) and 2. Charming Charlies... literally the most AMAZING accessory store of all time. I purchased a beach-themed necklace to wear with my dress to Courtney and Jay's Jamaica wedding, which is in exactly 26 days! YAY JAMAICA!

Day004

Ok so I did it again and forgot to post last night. Woops.

Day 4 was a busy day: church, lunch with the family for my birthday, bridal shower, then finally back home to relax. The bridal shower was a lot of fun... really the first 'bridal' shower I had been to. Most of them have been 'wedding' showers, which entails a co-ed party... therefore, no silly games or making the bride do ridiculous things. In honor of the silly games at bridal showers, I give you day 4's photo.

Day004: Three Small Words

This little ring was connected to a ribbon, which all the attendees wore around their neck. There were three small words that could not be said during the party and if you caught someone, you got to take the ring/necklace. The woman with the most rings/necklaces at the end of the party won a prize. Other games we took part in were bridal shower bingo, where you fill in the bingo boxes with gifts you think the bride will get; first lady to get bingo with the correct gifts wins a prize. I was bound and determined to win this one... so I did. :) Another game was one in which the groom (who was not present) made up 25 questions about himself and provided the answers to the hostess. The hostess then asked the bride these questions about the groom and for every wrong answer, the bride had to put a huge piece of Double Bubble bubble gum into her mouth. The wad was the size of a golfball by the end.

As you may have gathered from my previous post, today was actually my second shower in one weekend. If I was not already married and had been through the shower thing, I might be a little jaded at this point. However, it is quite the contrary and I am ecstatic for both couples.

Oh, and in case it's been driving you crazy, the three words were 'Nicole,' the bride, 'Scott,' the groom, and 'wedding.'

Day003

Today was a good day. :)

Got up early-ish and left Farmville to come home... very sad leaving my best friends, but happy to be heading home. Had an uneventful drive home... pretty sure I was half asleep for most of it. And no, I was not driving. We got back in time to see Courtney and Jay before they headed to lunch... and then we were introduced to the cutest puppy I have ever seen: Isla the vizsla. She's Courtney and Jay's new pride and joy and she is the funniest thing ever. She watched Toddlers & Tiaras (most ridiculous show ever) with me... and by watched I mean she slept on my side/shoulder and was dreaming/twitching/hiccuping the whole time. Precious.

Courtney and Jay's wedding shower was today as well, hence their visit. We all had a really good time and Isla completely stole the show... as seen by my photo for the day.

Day003: Isla

I mean, seriously? Could she be any cuter? As if I didn't want a puppy/dog of my own bad enough. Oh and also... I love my fisheye lens. Courtney and Jay are so funny with her. She is the most spoiled (and rightfully so) puppy and she loves every second of it. Pretty sure she was carried around like a baby by various people for about 85% of the party. Princesses do not walk, they are carried.

On a random note, we also just got a new beta fish. Belvedere (named after the vodka) passed on a week or so ago. He didn't last very long... his alcoholic lifestyle didn't suit him. So now we have a new beta whose name is Skyy (do I need to explain that one?). He is completely white with a little bit of blue speckling on his tail fins. We also bought him a plant to have in his brandy sniffer fish bowl in case I forget to feed him. Planning ahead.

That's all I have for today. I'm uploading my extra photos to facebook in about 3.5 seconds so check those out too. :)

Day002

Ok so I'm posting this a bit late, but I DO have photographs for day 2. I think I've decided what I want to do about the extra photos I take each day though... since I'm trying to reconnect with photography and not just take one photo a day, I had this predicament about what to do with the other photos I take, especially if I really like them but they aren't picked for my 'one' a day. Here is my solution: facebook. Isn't it the answer to everything anyway? No but really... I'm going to select my one photo for the day and upload it here but the rest that I take during each day will be uploaded into an album on my facebook so I can still share them. Sounded like a good compromise to me.

Anyway... here is my photo for day 2:

Day002: Fuzzy Corndog Grass

I took this at Briery Creek Lake... the name always confused me. Why use 2 different bodies of water for one place? Oh well. It was incredibly windy and not really all that photogenic because everything is brown and dead, but I found what I am calling the Fuzzy Corndog Grass. I actually ended up using the flash on my Canon after this photo and got some interesting results, but this one was my favorite.

I don't like that I didn't post this yesterday so I'm going to try and be more consistent and actually post on the day the photo was taken... live and learn.

Day001

HAPPY 23rd BIRTHDAY TO ME!

So I have had a wonderful birthday so far. Started off my morning with breakfast at Walker's Diner with the husband, then visited my FAVORITE Longwood office, FYE, and had a lovely chat with Sarah, Stacey, and Ashley. It's so weird being back on campus... I feel like I should have a backpack and be bookin' it across campus to get to class. But, nope. Leisurely walking for me. Best. Feeling. EVER.

After our FYE visit, we ran into my favorite ADPi, Chloe and had lunch with with her and her fiance, our good friend Dane, at the new bar/restaurant? Alas, Mulligan's is gone and been replaced by 202 Bar & Grill... or something like that. Not too shabby, I must say. It is also the location for my photo of the day, compliments of our adorable engaged friends.

Day001: Pens, etc.

This is Chloe's pen collection. It goes where she goes. But this is not just a "pen collection." Here is Chloe's explanation for all the different types of pens: there is a Peer Mentor pen, a Library pen, a Lancer Productions pen (or 2), various other organization -related pens, certain pens are for journaling, another pen is for when something needs to be written pretty, there are even a few pencils, but the most intriguing collection is the 'borrow pens'... basically the reject pens that she's ok with losing to the infamous pen borrower whose definition of borrowing is more closely related to stealing. With this photo, you also get Dane's reaction to Chloe's pen bag... priceless.

Today I also experienced El Patron (aka 'New Mexico')... and I was impressed once again with Farmville's new additions since my graduation. Now I am hoping to be impressed with the bar side of 202, where I will celebrate my birth, 23 years ago, with my best friends in the whole entire world. :)

And there you have it... day one of my new project. 365 days from now, I will be celebrating my Golden Birthday and this project will be complete! Until then, let's make this year worth it. Happy birthday to all the February 24th babies out there!

First Post...

A Photo A Day*

*actual number of photos taken per day may vary

This is my new, revamped Project 365 attempt. It is also my attempt at getting over the regret I have for not finishing my original Project 365 started Christmas 2009.

This is Project 365, version 365.2.

I have an obsession with the 'Golden Birthday' so I decided that incorporating this fascination into my new project was a no brainer. 365.2 is going to start on my 23rd birthday, which is this coming February 24 (yay me!) and will end the day I turn 24 on the 24th (the Golden Birthday).

I realized after not following through with the original project that I would need some new guidelines the second time around. So here are the changes...
1. I am not photographing at a specific time. I kept getting caught up in the time the photo was taken more so than the subject matter I was photographing.
2. I am not taking just one photo a day. In an effort to reconnect with my love of photography, I am not limiting myself to 'a photo a day,' no no. Instead, I am going to take as many photos as I please and choose my favorite from the day to use as my one photo for that day. I'm hoping this will inspire me to photograph anything and everything fascinating I see throughout the day.
3. I'm blogging! Yay! Little known fact about Amy- I love to write. Again... hoping this will inspire me to follow through with this project if I get to actually write about my photographic experiences every day. Intriguing, right?

I think that pretty much sums this new project up. I would love to have TONNNSS of followers, mainly because it would make me feel good about myself (at least I'm honest) but also maybe it will inspire others to do similar projects. My last project inspired a couple of people (that I am aware of ) to start their own projects and that thrilled me! But I feel like I was restricted by simply using Facebook.

So here I am in the big wide world of blogging, a new experience for me. If you decide to follow me, bless you... I'm sure it's going to be nothing short of interesting. :)
